Tacoma Town

The Brief

We are looking for a new logo for a branding campaign called ’Tacoma Town". Tacoma Town will be marketed as a destination place for anyone in the market for a Toyota Tacoma.

Our vision is to create the idea of a sort of a modern day Dodge City (more fun and less violent) based entirely on the idea that it’s Tacoma Town and everything about it fits with the Tacoma buyer. A place outside of the city where you can come buy from people like you. We need the logo to represent that spirit. The radio voice over that goes with this campaign is going to be a Sam Elliot (Virgil Earp in Tombstone) style voice.

The Toyota Tacoma is a pickup truck produced and manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corporation since 1995. The second-generation Tacoma was Motor Trend Magazine’s Truck of the Year for 2005.

So the logo may contain something like a silhouette of a Truck (Tacoma) in a town setting, or mountains or just a town background with graphic Tacoma Town type. But other totally fresh ideas are welcome. That is up to your own creativity. You are free to use any color-schemes you like but keep the style professional. We are looking for something a little tougher so please no cartoon style logos.

In addition
If possible we would like to ask you to design also a smaller version of the logo which can be used for Social Media profile pictures (face book, twitter) but can be read or recognized also good in a smaller profile image.

We hope you can produce some really great logos for our client to choose from.

We wish you all good luck in this competition!

Target Audience

Target Audience is people between 35-55 who don’t need the utility of a full-size truck and want fuel economy, and an urban/rural compact truck will suit their needs.

This is a group of people who are considered “lifestyle” or non-professional customers. The Tacoma buyer tends to be “the handyman, the outdoorsy type, the do-it-yourselfer, the hobbyist” who doesn’t need the V8 power or capacious payload of a full-size truck but still requires a fraction of that.

He or she has a need to run to the hardware store, garden center or Costco and come home with some stuff but doesn’t need to tow a horse trailer.

We want to appeal to the outdoor crowd as well as people who might be looking at this truck for lifestyle reasons; these are most likely people who would enjoy a good Western and or James Bond.

Logo Requirements

Logosauce Standard Final Art Requirements: Vector artwork in Pantone SPOT, CMYK, RGB and BW versions. Files should be saved in Adobe Illustrator .ai or .eps file formats with all strokes converted to objects and fonts pathed/outlined. Other file formats may be acceptable in exceptional circumstances.

@EmilyB I think you need to clarify the situation here with the use of the Toyota logo (as some designers have included it). It’s doubtful you will be able to use/embed the Toyota logo in your own.

Can I wait to see what Emily says? I will withdraw if it is not OK, I was thinking that when I used it, but thought it’s for Toyota so just adding to what is already there they would not have a problem with that. Let’s see what she says… Thanks Digger!

I can tell you that in the US putting any graphics or text on top of the Toyota bug (logo) is a ‘no-no’; you’re also not allowed to alter the bug in any way (add effects, fades, gradients, etc). There are very specific proper-use rules for the Toyota emblem and it’s typically not allowed to be separated from the Toyota typeface – but depending on where she’s located and what her ties are to the manufacturer, she might not care.

@marcee – but i/we do care. We won’t allow obvious logo or copyright infringement. Therefore in the absence of @EmilyB’s comments I will clarify.

There should be NO USE OF OR COPY OF the TOYOTA logo or trademark whether in full or part in the creation of your entry.
