The Brief

This is a new, modern, unique brand that is aimed towards changing the fashion industry and the plain t-shirt. The idea is to create shirts that are customizable and recognizable from their pockets. All sorts of different colors, materials, and different fabrics will be used to make up the pockets on the shirts. Furthermore, the client will be able to pick if he/she wants to color of the collar to match the pocket, or if he wants the sleeves to be the same materials as the pocket. It is all up to the client. The brand is looking for a young, hip feel to the logo and something that will draw in attention and wow the customers while staying clean and professional.

The idea behind UrbanPockets is that anyone can express their sense of fashion by choosing the shape of their pockets, the fabric, colors and a variety of placement styles in order to represent their own fashion sense without being guided by societies idea of what fashion should be. Feel free to express yourself in any way you see fit and remember to not hold back. Our t-shirts are designed to be a representation of your individualism and creativity and therefore the sky is the limit when you decide to design your UrbanPockets shirts!

Would love to see colorful stitching involved in the designs somehow maybe with a font or something more creative. Also, since the idea is based mostly on pockets would like to see a pocket worked into the text or the logo somehow!

Target Audience

The logo is aimed at the companies clients which are likely to be in the 18-29 range. And directed mostly towards men but unisex is also good. The audience is towards a younger crowd that is interested in fashion, customization and being trendy.

Logo Requirements

Logosauce Standard Final Art Requirements: Vector artwork in Pantone SPOT, CMYK, RGB and BW versions. Files should be saved in Adobe Illustrator .ai or .eps or Adobe Photoshop file formats with all strokes converted to objects and fonts pathed/outlined. Other file formats may be acceptable in exceptional circumstances.

I also like the initals U P for the company and maybe those could be worked in cleverly. Maybe something along the lines of a pocket with UP in a cool font and then the name below it with stitching style font?

The idea is that this a brand that is blending the classic look with a more modern, edgy feel.

- sophisticated yet unique - classic and traditional but with a modern feel - funky, fun, different company that wants to modernize and colorize the classic t-shirt 2012-10-10 04:12:43 UTC

Also, for the business cards designs I would like them to be vertical and in the shape of a pocket with cut-corners.

Great ideas so far! loving the designs and creativity. Just wanted to point out that I think it would be best to draw attention to the word pockets more so than the word urban, so maybe bolded or a bit bigger font size so that it really draws the attention to pockets!

thanks again to everyone! please let me know if you have any questions

Make-A-Tee:

what do you guys think about a design that centers around the words urban + pockets making up the shape of a pocket? like the words would be the outline to the pocket itself…

Make-A-Tee:

thank you for everyones time so far!

would like to see some options for a hang tag for the t-shirts implementing the logo design into them please!

also, if doing a business card design try to keep the card to the size of a regular business card but maybe a bit smaller and in the shape of a cut cornered pocket.

thanks again!!

also, i think using the shape of the pocket to replace the letter O in the text could be a great option for a typographical style logo design!

thanks!

i actually really like using the pocket shape as a replacement for a letter and think this could work with any of the designs! would love to see more options like this…

also was thinking about what it would look like with the word pockets written out to be the ouline of the pocket shape…. see if anything intresting can come from expanding this idea!

cheers!

Only a couple days left on this competition! Good work so far but none of the logos are perfect.

Please check out the short listed options to see what it is I am leaning towards! I hope to still see some new design ideas for this competition too!

I hope that in these last couple days we can perfect a logo option together and get cool designs together for some great options!

Thanks again for everyone’s hard work!

I have removed my entries from this competition, and I am definitely going to do designs based on my own feelings and impressions.

I would advice all my collegues to do the same.

Bibi,

i do agree that each designer will have his/her own style and feelings towards a logo in general and I am in no way telling you that you’re design isn’t cool but it just wasn’t exactly what I was looking for yet….

I think that a customer has a lot of important choices to make when deciding in a logo and therefore it should ultimately be up to the client to decide what he does or doesn’t like about a particular design.

Anyways,
thanks for your ideas

cheers

@PickPockets: I think everybody here appreciates your involvement on this competition. Certainly having the client comment and participate makes for a better product in the end. Having said that, your briefs usually go towards requiring more detail, more complexity and I would urge you to consider simpler approaches, of which there are quite a few ones already. Think Nike, Coca Cola, Apple (complex logos are harder to scale up/down for example). Your website and marketing material will show what you do, your logo will tie it all up and be a mark for you business and clients.

Make-A-Tee:

@nene i will take your suggestions into consideration.

my requests are not meant to be offensive, nor am i telling anyone what design does or does not look good because it is a matter of taste. i am not going to settle for a logo just because a designer thinks that it is good if i am not personally satisfied with it. and the reason i request these things is because i have an idea in my head of what the design should look like but i also want to see varios different options to be able to really decide which i like more.

again, thanks for the auggestion and for the desgins thus far!

Make-A-Tee:

@LEP….

your logo i actually like the most from the first design that you made and i asked for very simple, subtle changes that i thought would give the logo more character and more relationship with the brand.

the only difference i wanted to see on your logo (which was shortlisted for this competiton) was to use the negative space of the P to form a pocket shape that didnt overlap into the letter U…. that is a simple design and a small change to the black and white logo you first created.

again, i aprreciate the hard work and would like to thank you for your ideas.

maybe you misunderstood what it was that i wanted for that logo but i hope this clears that up.

cheers!

Fontana

Fontana:

There are two aspects to this case, one positive and the other negative.

negative
directing the customer wants to detail the whole process can be a mistake. As a ’nene" says, a complicated logo can be difficult to reproduce in different sizes. Maybe too many guidelines that are not the result expected by the customer, but they give a lot of work to designers.

positive
Hopefully, all customers had the same feedback to the designers who have pickpockets.
I’m fun with his feedback.

do not know if I learned to express myself

PickPockets: I think we are in the same page. And please don’t think we take offense to your comments. As I said, your input and vision is appreciated and as you can see, taken into account. We are just doing our part as designers trying to 1) make our pitch; 2) trying to help your brand (website, marketing materials, app icon, etc etc) rather than just providing a logo and walking away. Thanks

talien:

One little thing… Design you get from this contest doesn’t need to be (and seems it can’t be) absolutely final and perfect. You can just buy a concept you like and tune it to your needs later. With all those extra stitchings. :)

Boddhi

Boddhi:

To be in, I totally agree with what Talien said. That’s the right way that things should work, any further adjustments and details and everything what client wants should happen after a winner has been chosen by the client. Otherwise will be an army of designers work the hell out of them trying to make another army of their logos “as perfect as possible :)”…I know that’s the risk that all of us are assuming but the client should know that means a hell of a lot of work from us, and in the end is only one winner…It’s still work though, not “spending time here because we have nothing else to do all day, laying on a branch like an african cat, bored in the shadow…:P”

Cheers to everyone,
Calin.

Make-A-Tee

Make-A-Tee:

i would really like to see some designs to end of the competition that incorporate the pocket into the text itself such as replacing the O or the C in the word pockets with a simple yet elegant pocket shape placed in its respective position…. maybe use the same pocket that can be a simple logo on its own with the initials U and P to be the O. something along those lines i think would be really cool.

For this the pocket can be like blue with black outline/stitching….and the font can be black i think that would look good here

Yes, I can see that’s how it works but can’t see why it’s that way. Can’t steal ideas after closing…? That’s the main point of hiding I guess, though some people may just be shy. :)
