The Ultra Marathon Cycling Association is the organizing body for Ultracycling. See www.ultracycling.com for some more information. We are the keeper of world records for cycling distances of 100 miles or more, up to about 3000 miles and timed events of 12 hours, 24 hours or more.
We have been in existence for a little over 25 years and were started by the first people to race continuously across the USA, completing that 3000 mile journey in about 10 days.
We now also host programs that track members performance in events throughout the year as well as a large record program dedicated to tracking cross-state and cross-country records. Our members include, arguably the greatest competitive endurance athletes in the world and many people who just love to go long.
Our members are from many backgrounds all over the world but share a common desire to push themselves farter and faster than they have ever gone before. The strain and sleep depravation takes people to the edges of their capabilities and many experience dramatic emotional swings, hallucinations and physical stresses that test their ability to endure. And sharing this common, experience, the bond between us is very strong.
I do not know what can be expressed in a logo. We want something simple and clean; that can be used on Jerseys, and Decals, and Hats and Shirts, that will be recognized easily on a passing car, and will look good on our magazine, Ultracycling which can be viewed in PDF on our web site. Our current average age is over 50 but more and more we are appealing to younger riders, mostly those who have given up on being the next Greg LeMond and are looking for another place to make their mark. As such we want to logo to appeal to younger riders as well as old.
