The Brief

I need a logo for my company, StudioWeapon. We specialize in film-scoring, custom music for mixed media, and film/video editing. Additionally, we develop commercial sound libraries for music producers/composers. StudioWeapon is both the services (lethal skills in a broad range of music and video tasks), and the products (focused sound libraries for professional musicians).

Though “Weapon” is in the name, I am not interested in fire-arm/guns imagery. Instead, I prefer more oblique approaches — think “futuristic sexy ninja in a robot factory” rather than “M1 Tank crashes through a prison wall”. I’m not a big fan of serif fonts, tending toward sans-serifs like Agency FB, Continuum, etc. Strong fonts with a hint of technology. I like all-lowercase and all-caps typefaces, but nothing flowery … this is a weapon!

Color-wise, I like black and greys, brushed and textured metals. I also like color (no pastels please — greens and blues, and deeply saturated colors), especially with contrasting color blocking. I like subtlety, and gradients especially. Glow-effects I also like — especially with silhouette. I love art-deco and the future-retro look of “Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow”. You shouldn’t want to hug this logo, but you also shouldn’t be afraid of it. You should want to pick it up and aim it at something, confident that it will make quick and effortless work of anything you need it to do.

Things the logo should convey:

1. Confidence without being over the top
2. Precision without looking over-worked
3. Cleanliness
4. Elegance

Finally, I need both a logo with a graphic incorporating the company name text, and also one that works as a square Twitter profile image without the text.

Target Audience

As broad as possible, but mostly males aged 15-50.

Logo Requirements

Logosauce Standard Final Art Requirements: Vector artwork in Pantone SPOT, CMYK, RGB and BW versions. Files should be saved in Adobe Illustrator .ai or .eps file formats with all strokes converted to objects and fonts pathed/outlined. Other file formats may be acceptable in exceptional circumstances.

I’d like to see some more logos where the graphic is to the left of the text, rather than above. Also, if you’re thinking about weapons, I’m thinking about blades, shurikens, scythes, etc. I want something elegant, that looks powerful.

I’m really excited with what I’ve seen so far, so please keep up the good work!

Additional notes: I’d like to see some logo options that express prism-like color splits. Also, the scene in The Matrix after Neo stops the bullets – he flexes and it bends the space around him – that sort of imagery is very interesting, and could be introduced here. The idea would be that the logo is so massive that it changes the space around it on the page.

I am not interested in fire-arm/guns imagery.

I see a lot of positive comments on logos using weapons, bullets, etc. So you are interested?

Regarding weapons in the design: “Though “Weapon” is in the name, I am not interested in fire-arm/guns imagery. Instead, I prefer more oblique approaches” – I want to avoid obvious references to the word “weapon” but still find that the name is represented by the logo.
